Starter Kits

Every vvd create template, grouped by kind — each one a real creation you can run in the page.

The hardest part of a new platform isn't the API. It's the blank folder — the moment where you know roughly what you want and have no idea which of the twelve concepts you just read about you're supposed to reach for first.

So vvd create never gives you a blank folder. It gives you a working creation: real collaborative state, a real data model, a component that already does something you can break. Eight of them, and this section is a page for each — with the kit itself running on the page, before any of the code.

You will learn

  • Which kit to start from for the thing you have in mind
  • What each one actually feels like, by using it here rather than reading about it
  • The exact vvd create command for any kit, and what it prints
  • What's inside a scaffold, file by file, before you make one

One command

vvd create bestiary --tool --template=hello
Expected output:
→ Creating tool bestiary in /Users/you/dev/bestiary — from the Hello World template

✦ ah — a bestiary tool. let's build it.

Next:
cd bestiary
vvd run # render it live in your world — hot-reloads as you edit
vvd save # save a new version (a private draft)
✓ Created bestiary (tool) → /Users/you/dev/bestiary

Three parts, and only one of them is about kits. bestiary is your project's name — it becomes the folder, the id, and the slug. --tool is what you're making. --template= is which kit you start from; leave it off and you get the first one for that kind.

Run vvd create with no flags at all and it asks instead: arrow-select the kind, then the kit, then type a name — and it goes straight into vvd run from the new folder. That's the nicer way to browse. This page is the nicer way to choose.

Note:

New here? Install the CLI first — it's one command, and vvd create needs you signed in.

Pick one

Each card opens onto that kit's page, where the kit is running — you can type in it, drag things around it, and break it, before you decide to make one. That's why there's no demo on this page: there are eight, one click away.

Which one?

If you're not sure, the honest answer is Hello World, as a tool. It's the smallest complete thing on the list, it demonstrates the four ideas every other kit also uses (shared state, presence, world links, drag-and-drop), and it's short enough to read in one sitting and then start deleting pieces of.

Beyond that, the question that decides it is how much does this own?

If the thing you're making…Start from
edits one document at a time, and belongs in the sidebara tool kit
is a place in the world with its own route, holding many documentsan app kit
is a site about the world, for people who aren't editing itthe wiki kit

The mental model is the longer version of that table, and it's worth ten minutes if the distinction still feels arbitrary.
